Hilly Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 I can't find it in the add/remove programs list, and there's no uninstall option in the program list. I've run msconfig and unchecked the load at startup option, and it still wants to open every time I boot the computer up. I HATE it, and want to uninstall it, but HOW???? Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted June 13, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted June 13, 2008 Hilly, I run XP on my laptop and ME on my desktop, and found my google toolbar in the add/remove on both machines there. You might try running a search to find where it's hidden itself. Do make sure that you're operatating as the 'administrator', and not just one of the users, as you have limited options if you're just logged in as a profile (on the computer, not online) Quote

Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted June 13, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) You should also delete everything else too (yahoo related), as otherwise it's just wasted memory. Plus, not getting all of it might run you into problems with something trying to start and not being able to find the rest of itself- presto, instant error messages. If you're not worried about memory, you could also just disable it. Either way, you should restart the computer when all the changes have been made. Edited June 13, 2008 by TwinOaks Quote
Moderator Johanna Posted June 13, 2008 Moderator Report Posted June 13, 2008 You should be able to uninstall it from Add/Remove. You can also use Mike Lin's StartUpCPL to select what you want to come on when you boot the computer. It adds a tab to your control panel that lets you select or deselect processes. Anything associated with your security programs you need to leave running, but you can play with all else until your computer boots as fast as you expect. If you have the Yahoo toolbar, you can uninstall that. I've noticed Yahoo toolbar tries to "piggyback" on legit programs like Adobe Flash etc. Holler if you need help or have any questions! Ambassador abn Posted June 13, 2008 Ambassador Report Posted June 13, 2008 I can't find it in the add/remove programs list... I know this sounds counter-productive, but try installing it a second time to see if you can get the program name to show up in Add/Remove Programs. Then, uninstall using Add/Remove Programs. (Hope this works!) Quote
Members paris3200 Posted June 14, 2008 Members Report Posted June 14, 2008 (edited) Can I just run a search for YahooMessenger.exe and delete any files I find with that name without my computer hating me in the morning? The problem with that approach is your not removing anything from the registry. Jason Edited June 14, 2008 by paris3200 Quote
