bema Report post Posted November 24, 2011 I have a customer who wants a bobber seat done in sharkskin. Which way should the grain of the leather go? Front-to-back? Or side-to-side? I have a piece that will work perfectly if it goes on with the grain side-to-side, but I was wondering if there's a "right" direction that the grain should be going. Thanks! Shooter McGavin Report post Posted November 24, 2011 Is there a right way? I would think it's based on personal preference. Of which, mine would be running it at a slight angle. When all else fails, talk to the customer and ask them which direction they prefer? Post pics when youre done. A sharkskin bike seat sounds sexy. K-Man Report post Posted November 24, 2011 Here's one I did on a Dyna Low Rider. On the sides of the seat, we ran it front to back; on the center of the seat, we ran it side to side; on the bags, we ran it front to back.
bema Report post Posted November 26, 2011 Thanks, Shooter! The angle sounds like a good way to go. And, checking with the customer makes entirely too much sense. Is there a right way? bema Report post Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks, K-Man! This set looks awesome! I appreciate the pics and your taking time to respond. Helps a lot. Here's one I did on a Dyna Low Rider. On the sides of the seat, we ran it front to back; on the center of the seat, we ran it side to side; on the bags, we ran it front to back.
