Pull-Thru Snaps

Recommended Posts

Hello-the-forum,

I will be making an ankle holster soon and am looking for a supplier or maybe a forum member who could supply me with 3 pull-thru snaps. I would be happy to pay for the product and shipping and whatever for the trouble. Anyone or information would be most grateful. Thanks Semper-fi Mike

I'm not sure there is such a thing as pull through snaps. The pull through designs I've seen used regular line 24 snaps.

A "pull-thru snap" releases when pressure from the weapon is drawn from the holster. It doesn't require input from the thumb or any other outside pressure source to unsnap it, other than the pressure induced from the draw. Denster, I may be wrong, but I believe the #24 snap wouldn't release itself upon pressure from just the draw. I think they are their own type of snap system. Maybe some others will help with some intel. I've "googled" and read till my eyeballs ache. Most all big leatherworking houses mention a holster with "pull-thru snaps" but I cannot find where to purchase them They just might be a #24. Thanks for the replies. Semper-fi Mike

Mike,

The line 24s will unsnap themselvss if your design causes pressure between the two layers that are snapped together. The back of the trigger guard (I'm assuming that that is where your snap would go) would be performing the same function as your thumb on a conventional thumb break. When you start your draw the trigger guard moves up into a V between the top and bottom layers and pops the snap.

Denster, I stand corrected. Thank you, Dan, for the explanation. This is for a Kahr PM9 so I would have to put the snap on top of the slide. I don't see anywhere I could put it by the trigger guard. Tell me if I am missing something here..(besides my brain, of course!!!!) Thanks again. Semper-fi MIke

I think Dan was refering to revolvers as that is a popular place to put it with the enclosed hammer J frames. Will work equally well over the slide of an auto.

Yep, ankle holster and J frame just kind of go together in my mind. I think the Kahr will work even better though.
