Where can I get a high quality diamond shaped awl blade? I'm making a handle myself, but am not sure where to find a blade. Thanks in advance.

If you are making a handle why not make the blade ?

Call your local steel supplier and get a piece of

3/16 stainless and make you a blade. A ten foot

piece is only 9 bucks around here.

I guess I could just make one. I didn't think of that. I remember reading a while back about someone who makes excellent quality blades for a reasonable price. I was just hoping someone could refer me to that maker.

You're close but not dead on. Bob Douglas is Vandy Douglas' dad. Vandy owns Sheridan Leather Outfitters and sells a lot of her dad's tools there.

For awl blades, both C.S.Osborne and John James, try Campbell Bosworth Machinery Co. I ordered from Siegel on Friday, had a call back on Monday that the awl blades, CSO #44, and the harness needles, #3 & #4, were not stocking items. I ordered the same from Campbell Bosworth via internet the same day, prices were much cheaper than Siegel, shipped on Tuesday, anticipated delivery on Thursday via USPS First Class Mail.

316 stainless for an awl? Hmmmm! You really need a steel that hardens well enough to be made into a knife. Better to go with a carbon steel like O1 or 1095.
