Suicide Report post Posted December 24, 2011 Hi folks, I have made decorative cuts after tooling done and they were looking pretty ok - open in the begining and tapered to zero at the end. I give leather to dry, then partially dyed, partially stanned it with eco flo (waterbased) stuff. Now piece drying and still a bit dump, but I see all the cuts almost closed and became kinda uniform - same tapered to zero at the ends Is there any tricks to keep cuts opened and well shaped after dyeing? Thanks in advance and Merry Christmass to everyone!

pete Report post Posted December 24, 2011 Without seeing the cuts- I would have to say that they were either not as deep as you think to begin, or you used too much dye at once. Did you "soak" the piece or put it on with a brush? If he leather was sufficiently dry before dying then I can only assume that your finish cuts weren't nearly deep enough. pete
hidepounder Report post Posted December 24, 2011 Pete's right. Too much moisture was introduced after the cuts were made. I also suspect that your leather was a little too dry when you made the cuts. Hope this helps... Bobby
Suicide Report post Posted December 24, 2011 Thnaks, guys, seems you right - I did put much stains at once and initially leather was a bit dryer than has to be. Did you "soak" the piece or put it on with a brush? I used dauber, did not soak in. Pete's right. Too much moisture was introduced after the cuts were made. I also suspect that your leather was a little too dry when you made the cuts. Hope this helps... I attached the picture with that fragment closeup - marked cuts with red.
