My Work, And A Question

Recommended Posts

Hello.

This is my first time posting here, so I thought I would show some of the things I do. Also, really excited to be taking Carl Chappells boot making class in a few weeks!

So my question is concerning the straps that I use on this first bag. The veg tan is so stiff that it looks awkward when the bag is not being worn. I have used generous amounts of neatsfoot oil to try to soften in, but it only helps a little.

Any advice out there for softening things like straps? Thanks.

Hal

I use Aussie leather conditioner and work it in by hand. It's messy, but the friction and heat is the best way to get the conditioner into the leather. The result is very pliable.

Thanks Mike, I will try that this weekend!

Are you applying it to the interior and exterior of the strap?

Oh yea, Welcome to the forum.
