Members Dwing8 Posted January 13, 2012 Members Report Posted January 13, 2012 Hi, I'm going to dye some 1/8" round leather cord I bought in a natural color, but I'm not sure if I should deglaze it before I do. What is deglazing solution after all? Is it acetone? Thanks, Dano Quote
Members Kevin Posted January 15, 2012 Members Report Posted January 15, 2012 Deglazer removes finish. I would try dyeing without useing it first. Kevin Quote

Kevin While some folks may use it to remove finish that is not it's original intended usage - the usage is for cleaning the surface of undyed leather in prparation for dying. Leather from the suppliers often has a buildup of wax and oils on the surface, often splotchy, due to the plating process - it also often has oils from being handled. SO yes I would most likely use a bit of deglazer or denatured alcohol first. Quote
Members TexasJack Posted January 15, 2012 Members Report Posted January 15, 2012 Fiebling's deglazer is a mixture of ethyl acetate and ethanol. Chuck is correct that denatured alcohol (which is generally ethanol plus a bit of methanol) will do the trick. Some folks on here have posted that they use acetone or rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). Quote
