Survival Knife Sheath

Recommended Posts

Here is a knife sheath that I made for my 8 inch survival knife. I used 6-7 oz leather and stained it with a home made english walnut leather stain that I make. I am relatively new to leather working and I want your honest opinions of my work. This is one of my first projects and I think my work has improved. Please Critique. - otak

Other than the wavy stitch line it looks good to me, can't really see the burnishing on the edges.

Does the knife slide in and out easily?

I agree about the wavy stitch line. Get a stitching groover and your stitch lines will be instantly straighter. You cut the groove a set distance from the edge and stitch inside the groove. No need to try to keep it straight. You just follow the groove. It also helps the thread keep from wearing out as it sits the thread lower into the leather. Less above to get worn out.

Did you put a welt in between the top and bottom leather? A side view would really be nice to see.

Its a great start. Keep up the practice and you will get great quickly.

Thanks for the input.

I made this sheath a back in September and have since invested in a stitching groover with an edge guide, and it does help a lot. The groove in this was cut free hand. There is a welt, and the edge is burnished. The knife also comes in and out very easily, but still fits snugly.
