chancey77 Report post Posted February 2, 2012 Nope. I only used My SW Knf, SW Beveler ,and a M885 Backgrounder, besides the frame stamps. I just finished it. My tattoo artist was tired of useing so many rolls of paper towels for his leg and ruining pants with ink and other peoples blood, so we figured this was the logical thing to make:) NOW TAKING ORDERS FOR MORE, FROM OTHER TATTOO ARTISTS! Amadea From what I am told yes. Mine is from the 1960's 70's??? It was my dads, so I got it with all his stuff and my Great Granddads leather tools. I use it as my #2 Tool next to my Knife. But I am told Springfield has the tip which you can put onto a Swivel knife. The screw on mine is so rusted I could never change it without drilling out the old screw and re-tapping it for a new one. Ya I think I see a lot of tattoo guys wanting one in the near future. My deal with artists is if they don't want to pay me the retail value, then they owe me just as long as I put into it in INK! From start to total finish that is 12 hrs, includes design and art,and figuring out how to do the straps for a left handed guy without interfering with the artwork. Plus gas and time spent tracking down quality Brass parts. So maybe 14 hrs....So in the end after I explain that to them, they probably just want to hand me the 300 I want for the leather:) Instead of tattooing me 2-3 sittings for a few hours at a time. There are 3 guys I make stuff for and we trade ink for leather all the time. I have so many tatts, it has been hard for me as an artist to figure out what I want , so I just let them pick what they have been wanting to tattoo since they rarely have the opportunity to just have free rein. As long as it goes with all my other old/new school classic tatts, I prefer the classic modern spins... But a lot of my stuff is just black and red, with some hints of blue or green, that is what I like. Sailor Jerry type stuff, but a little updated as far as color choice. It has been used on heavy equipment to get tracks off, and it is not harsh on your hands or tools. American made by a small mom and pop company. It may be to far for the swivel bvlr, the head of the tiny flat head is gone, I think it has well over 40-50+ years of almost everyday use on it and it is still going strong, but again it may be so dull that I don't know any better if I got a new one I might just be like OMG what have I been doing all these years..hahahah But I feel it is a way to use the tool and feel like I am being helped in some way by my dad ...sounds sappy, but that tool especially means a lot to me. I have used it since I can remember some of my first memories. My son who is now 3 has been using it since he was 1.5 yrs old or at least when he showed an interest in sitting in my lap watching what I have been doing. I am sure my dad was the same...I can remember that anyway:) I wasn't allowed to use the swivel knife yet and neither is my son, but in time he will, and prob remember the same as I do.... Well...for local use in Atlanta there is no shortage of Goodwill or Salvation Army..search though old purses and bags and see what you can scavenge, that is always cheep, much cheaper than shipping brass parts and it is local...I live in Finland ; land of over a 1,000 lakes, so there is no shortage of boat supply shops that always have great heavy duty brass hardware. I also buy for recycling stores similar to good will, and shoe cobbler supply shops they also have good quality brass snaps rivets and buckles. But for a quick / cheap find...Goodwill or Salvation army! I make regular trips to shops like that looking for brass.. and high end purses have much better parts maybe they where 50-100+ when they where new, but at goodwill all day 2-5 bucks:) and when you buy a lot of bags you can haggle with the manager for a better price...after all they did get all their stuff for free:) Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The color is not quite ox blood but is mainly a red brown actually I am buying and using Danish dyes so it is called RØ D Brown... The real secret lies in my socks that I use to color thinks with...Black on one side and the red brown on the other. and some of the black gets picked up and transfered at the same time...I used a high gloss black shoe makers top coat once and it is still in the sock, so when it gets wet again it leaves very small traces of gloss black and gives a great contrast..... You could just take RED dye 1st coat, 2nd coat Brown, then 3rd coat sporadic black then another touch of red.... I use a kind of French Polishing (carpentry) technique for my dying, not to many daubers get used in my shop, Brush and Rubs95%of the time, Thanks for you comments! I am glad you dig it!
