Members David Lane Posted February 8, 2012 Members Report Posted February 8, 2012 I have been working with Barge cement for 3 years, and I am looking to find something a bit safer for my brain. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I love the properties of Barge cement, so anything similar would be great especially the fast drying quality. Thanks a bunch, David- Quote David Lane Design Rochester, NY www.davidlane-design.com
Members particle Posted February 8, 2012 Members Report Posted February 8, 2012 Same here... My wife keeps threatening me because in the winter I keep my garage door closed. She says when I'm old and dumb she's not going to take care of me because I was too stupid to ventilate my work space. Of course, sometimes I keep the door closed in the summer because all the little bugs fly into my garage and land in the wet adhesive. Can't win. Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted February 9, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted February 9, 2012 Get enough contact cement fumes going, and there's NO PROBLEM with creativity.....getting it on the leather may be an issue, but you can see all kinds of cool stuff. Moderator bruce johnson Posted February 9, 2012 Moderator Report Posted February 9, 2012 David, There are some newer glues that are not as toxic. They behave a little differently though. I have not tried them because like you, I know how my current glue works and work around the problems. I do most of my glue applying outside. I am lucky that the back door out of my garage-shop opens into a covered deck. I do my glueing and oiling out there. I let the fumes offgas before bringing them in and sticking them. If I am glueing in the shop, then I use a respirator mask and ventilate. LOL Hey Particle, my shop is in my garage as well, and in the summer i had to contend with all the bugs. i ended up buying a garage door screen from garage screens inc. it was the best thing i've ever bought. easy to put up and take down and lets the air in and keeps the bugs out all summer. look em up, i think you'll like it. it cost about $150.00 and well worth the money. Members particle Posted February 13, 2012 Members Report Posted February 13, 2012 That's pretty cool! Would help cut down the western sun that bakes my garage in the evenings. Quote Eric Adamswww.adamsleatherworks.com | Facebook | YouTube | Instagram
