Doug Strong Report post Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) I have been using these old Singer machines since 1985 off and on. Recently I have been playing around with a new (to me) Singer 29k-70 machine. When I try to adjust the stitch length nothing seems to happen. I have searched here and on the rest of the Internet but my search-fu has failed me. So at this point I am going to ask you to assume I know nothing (not hard to do) and ask how do you adjust the stitch length on one of these machines and how is it related to adjusting for the thickness of the leather? (or is it?) Edited February 22, 2012 by Doug Strong
shadowryder Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Hi, the stitch adjustment is done by means of a slider clamp on the stem just above the needle there are numbers /stitches per inch to set the slider on. with regard to leather thickness i do not know sorry.. Cobra Steve Report post Posted February 22, 2012 Hi Doug. If your stitch length will not adjust, the machine may need some lubricant to help free the mechanism. Try some WD 40, then oil. Thanks, Steve
Doug Strong Report post Posted February 23, 2012 Your suggestions were helpful. I was able to make the necessary adjustments. I also got ahold of a maual thanks to another forum member. That showed me where the lubricate the machine. I had missed a few spots. Now she is humming along like a top. I may someday want a more modern machine but this one now works properly so I am ahead of the game.
