jacket potato Report post Posted March 27, 2012 Hi everyone! I am desperately looking for Neat lac or Clear lac as they call it now and I even found a couple of suppliers which sell it. But the problem is the suppliers are in the USA while I live in the UK and Neat Lac can not be air shipped. Does anyone know where I can buy this thing locally and by "locally" I mean the whole Europe or any place from where it can be shipped by ground. I would appreciate any push in the right direction please. Or maybe I am just being unreasonable and there is some equal substitute for Neat/Clear lac? At least the closest thing...I have been told Neat Lac is no longer made, anything being stocked is ol stock and if you live some where near that has it and use it often, you should stock pile it.....I could be wrong, this may be a rumor, but it is what I have been told. I bought a lot of things from your store for the past year, including this laquer you are talking about. You might recollect me as "voodooeyez" on eBay. I like your laquer - the thick one which needs to be applied with foundation - it gives nice shiny and soft coat. I am not using it on my product yet, I applied it in a sample and still keeping an eye on it for cracks and stuff. Just wanted to be sure that it can stand time and last for long. So far(a couple of months by now) it looks wonderful. I tried the one which does not need foundation - I got cracks on it in some time after applying. I still have a bottle of one more laquer of yours which I have not tried yet. Once I figure out which suits me the best I might be your customer. Thank you again! Chavez Report post Posted April 29, 2012 I'm probably wrong here, but I think I've read somewhere that neat-lac (no longer produced) and close alternatives can't be sold in the UK due to banned chemicals in these laquers. Don't know if its true, but how else would you explain why these producs can't be bought here? If you find a source, can you please post it here cause I'd like to try it too =) By the way, is there a supplier of bag-kote in the UK? Can't find this one either. I have never used it before, in fact I'm very new to edge finishing in general but have read Bob Park's guide to finishing edges and want to get it right first time. i.e. using it as the last step in the process, after burnishing, saddle soaping, dyeing, and further burnishing. I went to JT Batchelor in London who recommended using Edge Kote after simply burnishing and applying beeswax. I had tried this but really unhappy with the result as the edge kote simply rubbed off. (I think this was due to applying beeswax beforehand!) Follow Bob's steps. neatlac is not needed. You can use anything fot he final coat after the parraffin. I have found that putting the edge on my table and using a rag in hand to burnish works wonders. Also have three rags, or canvas.
