Members antipaladin Posted April 6, 2012 Members Report Posted April 6, 2012 (edited) I have a nice piece of horse butt I'm going to use to test out making one of these uni-fold wallets. http://www.noahlambe...uni-fold-wallet Trouble is it's pretty dry. Do I saddle soap and wax it BEFORE casing or after casing and before folding? Will the leather "take" the wax while it's already wet? Thanks! Edited April 6, 2012 by antipaladin Quote
mlapaglia Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 If the leather is dry you need to oil it not wax it. Oil it with something like Neetsfoot oil, EVOO, Lexol, something that will soak in and replace the oils that are missing. This is why its dry. When you do it depends on how dry it is. Unless it is super dry I would case and tool it then oil it and do the needed folds and stitching. Saddle soap is more of a cleaner. Wax will help preserve the leather after you get it oiled. Dont wax it until you are pretty much done with everything. Quote
