ryan Report post Posted January 17, 2008 I am a Police Officer and have never cared much for paddle holsters for retention reasons, therefore, I have never looked closely at one. Now I have a customer who wants one and I don't know how to go about making the paddle. I am not crazy about using anything plastic but a piece of skirting leather would probably be too bulky. What does everyone else think? P.S. not a fan of belt clips either and the customer was insistent that it be a paddle holster. Oh and it's for a compact .38 - hammerless and it's for a women who wants it for going on motorcycle trips. Since I have your attention, where does everyone get the gum rubber for their mold presses? I always wondered how everyone was doing that - thanks Boomstick!! Ryan

Ryan Cant help ya on the holster.... but you could always tell her to get a vest or jacket with a gun pocket.... they work nice and no one can tell you are concealed when made right. Randyc Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Ryan, I've been a copper for the past 31 years. I can't help you with the paddle dilema. I don't like them either. As a matter of fact, I hate holster belt clips worse then paddles I bought my molding rubber from McMaster-Carr $68.52 for 2 12"x12" 1"thick pieces of gum rubber. mcmaster.com product# 8633K63 Randy

As for the holster, I might just convince her that threading a holster on her belt is worth the extra effort than losing her gun @65 mph down the highway Ryan
Billsotx Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Use a piece of 6 oz veg tan stitched or riveted to the scabbard, line it with orthopedic elk or similar so it'll cling and sandwich a piece of galvanized gutter flashing between the two pieces of leather. You can then set a slight curve to her hip in the flashing. Hope this makes since.
BOOMSTICKHolsters Report post Posted January 18, 2008 Hey Ryan. I use kydex for my paddles. Easy to shape, and inexpensive. I attatch it to the holster with screws and t-nuts. With the right design, you can make a paddle that absolutely won't come out. You can get kydex from knifekits.com
