particle Report post Posted August 3, 2012 The control panel is very confusing. I use Bluehost and have been pretty happy with them. My Wordpress site seems to run slow at times, but I'm not sure that's their (bluehost's) fault.
bison Report post Posted August 3, 2012 I use godaddy for two different organizations and have been very happy. There is a learning curve, like Particle says, but you can really customize your site, set up shopping carts, forms, etc. it's pretty easy to update only the changes when you do them and it goes pretty fast. TexasJack Report post Posted August 3, 2012 When my son was in high school, I somehow inherited the school band's web site, which was on GoDaddy. I was absolutely thrilled at the help they gave me. I was able to upgrade the site for very little cost and provide all sorts of options, with the GoDaddy staff ready to answer any questions - without burying me in acronyms and technical terms. The guy who took it over after me needed to make some changes. I helped him with the things that he could change, but when some of the changes went beyond that, I told him about my experiences with the staff. He called me a few days later to thank me and say that his experience was the same - they stayed on the line and walked him through everything he needed. Art Report post Posted August 3, 2012 For the novice or amateur, goDaddy is very good, actually more excellent than very good. For pros who have to have a lot more one with the server zen, it is just better to get some hosting and roll your own. For really top shelf sites with just general direction, I usually recommend a couple of really good companies we have in the area. If you are going to roll your own, and have the time, goDaddy. As for the race car driver that they have for advertising; if I ever heard her say, "I didn't drive worth s#@t today", instead of blaming the car, the crew, the track, the weather, or the concession stand, I would have a lot more respect for her. Samuel Report post Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) I had GoDaddy, but I felt I was limited with what I could do. The time to update the domain name servers did take a little more time. If you're just starting out they're not bad. The control panel is very confusing. I use Bluehost and have been pretty happy with them. My Wordpress site seems to run slow at times, but I'm not sure that's their (bluehost's) fault. That could be how WordPress's was setup, the design of the template in WordPress, or a combination of Bluehost and Wordpress. Cyberthrasher Report post Posted August 17, 2012 I have GoDaddy for some stuff at work, but I ended up going elsewhere when it came time for my own stuff. I got sick of the explosion of things you have to pay for that the other companies offer for free - such as private registration. They're a great company though, just not the only company. But, I should also say I fall into the power user category who builds servers every day. I just don't want to step on my ISP's toes when it comes to a business web server. Nothing like getting your connection shut down right when someone's trying to look at your stuff and place an order

raysouth Report post Posted April 21, 2013 I have, over the past several years, purchased domain names, etc; from godaddy. Prices for the domain names were originally very reasonable but as time went by, their seemed to be an extra fee for a number of different reasons, etc; and became confusing. Also purchased the hosting and development program and that turned out to be a nightmare, especially when I attempted to obtain some assistance from them. After many frustrating hours spent trying to develop a site I gave it up as had no way to get the assistance I needed, and, to my dismat, they don't/didn't offer any refunds, for anything. Once you bought it, it was yours and good luck was the order of the day. Never have been up on computerese and the lingo is far beyond my very limited capability. The software that "ANYONE' could build and have a web site with was for ANYONE, and not for me. Never met ANYONE, but he was more up on website development than I was. I speak and converse in several foreign languages but computerese zipped right through the gray matter. lol. All in all, I suppose they may be okay but of no use to me and referring to my past experience with them, on a scale of 1 to 100, with 1 being the best, I would have to give it a 159. That bad and frustrating for me. ckl. Ain't life grand. I love it and more each day. God Bless. Ray I have, over the past several years, purchased domain names, etc; from godaddy. I run a datacenter for a living and I'm still not a fan of most of GoDaddy's services. For an enterprise or higher end solution, they're great. But for someone unexperienced or without much money, they're not that good. I use them for a lot of stuff at my day job, so I tried purchasing my domain through them for my personal use. The one thing that made me furious is that they decided they should charge people for "private registration". For people who don't know, ANYBODY can look up your information (name, address, phone number, email, etc....) by doing a WHOIS lookup on your domain. With a private registration, they fill in the public information with non-identifiable contact in order to protect you from spammers and other entities. MOST domain registrar's offer that service for free - NOT GODADDY!!!!
