From the little I can glean from the net I think that this machine is a medium weight machine but I'm not totally sure. I'm hunting for a machine that will do (2 5oz) 10oz's of rigid/dense veg tan for belts and I don't think this can do it, am I correct? At the same time I have heard "here" that motors and servos can make this possible, again...I might be mistaken. This could be an insanely good deal IF this machine is an acceptable machine for the task. I have pics if needed.

Same machine, it is suitable for sewing garments and some light weight garment leather but really no thicker than that. Sorry for the confusion.

The description states "This machine is suitable for general garments, lightweight leather, canvas, vinyl." So if you're sewing garment leather or even chaps, this machine would be fine. If you're looking to sew thicker leather, you'll need a walking foot machine.

One more question, if I may? In the pics I posted is there any way to tell if it is a walking foot machine? The fellow I talked to on the phone did say it was a walking foot machine but I'll add that he knows less about it than I do and I'm purely going from hearsay.

From the pictures you can't really tell because you cannot see the presser foot very clearly. This is just a very well known model that's been used in the manufacturing industry for the last few decades.

If you can tell me where I should get the pics taken from the guy will provide them. Do you need a close up of the area of the machine at or around the business end/needle portion of the machine or of something else...motors etc...?

I've read Wiz's thread but it gets deep fast and I'm trying to pull off a great "deal" quickly, if it's the right deal.

I'm callin him now for more pics/info.

You are going to want to curtail your search to a triple feed walking foot machine, with a large bobbin, capable of sewing 3/8 inch with #138 thread, or even #207. This is the minimum requirement for the projects you have stated as in your plans.

The Juki you are looking into is not that type of machine. A Juki 1541 or 1508 is.
