brathair Report post Posted August 27, 2012 I didn't find a topic quite like this on the search, so... I am curious to see if anyone out there has any favorite dyes/stains that they like to combine to make an original color for their holsters? Also what color combinations are your favorites when doing two tone, or inlay pieces? I know as for myself when I am looking for a deeper red I like the color I get when mixing Fiebings yellow and Ox Blood.

OK, how about oxblood and black for a black cherry. Black cherry is one great color you cannot buy!

I like that I will have to give it a try. and we sleep about as much as they do in Illinois. In all seriousness, I got lucky and am working graves this week. lightingale Report post Posted August 27, 2012 I've never made a holster, but if I did I'd airbrush it two-tone. Such as tan and dark brown, or red and black.
katsass Report post Posted August 27, 2012 From the old grump; I basically like contrast -- colors, and/or textures. I also like inlay work. With those in mind, here's a few things I've come up with. Mike
brathair Report post Posted August 27, 2012 I really like the brown with ostrich inlay. It looks to be a standard yellow. Do you remember what brown you used to match it? katsass Report post Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) brathair, That one is done with Fiebing's Dark Brown, cut 50/50 with denatured alcohol. I used multiple coats for uniform color and good absorption. The ostrich leg is 'cognac' color, and not quite as yellow as it appears in the pic. I think the afternoon sun caused the color shift.
