Sizing Up A Handle Pattern

I'm trying to make handle number 18 from the art of leather case making

Is it possible to just increase the size of the pattern by 50% or do I have to account for the increase in the pattern in a different way?

Are you just looking for a longer handle or an over all larger handle?

Make the entire pattern larger but trace it onto a folded piece of paper then you can reduce or increase any part of it until you get what you want.

You can also taper it.

A difference in thickness won't have a significant effect.
