SpookStrickland Report post Posted September 29, 2012 This is my first leather project ever! I saw a sheath online and liked it because it made for easy one handed opening of my lock back knife, I decided to give it a go and used an old Weight Belt I had laying around the house. It works very well. I'm going to get some nicer leather and make another one soon plus many more projects the leather bug has bitten me. I'm sure I made some mistakes but that's why I'm here is to learn and get better. Please feel free to comment Thanks
Sandman0077 Report post Posted October 10, 2012 I'm a little confused about how it's supposed to function, but it's a good start!
J Allen Report post Posted October 10, 2012 The knife is "loaded" while in the sheath.. Meaning it is partially open. the post in the upper right in each photo works as a self opener and as the knife is retracted from the sheath it opens the knife. So you can open the knife just by removing it from the sheath.

SpookStrickland Report post Posted October 14, 2012 I'm a little confused about how it's supposed to function, but it's a good start! It has a plastic fulcrum that the tip of the blade rides on that forces it open when you draw it out. It works really smooth and is great for when you have one hand full and you need to cut something. I mainly made it for camping because in the state where I live Fixed Blade knives are a big no, no, so now I have a knife big enough for bushcraft work that is almost as easy to use as a fixed blade. thanks FWIW from the grumy old guy; Here's some pics of a similar type sheath prototype I put together a while ago. Mike That is a great looking sheath, have you been wearing it a lot?
katsass Report post Posted October 14, 2012 (edited) Thanks Spook, I wore it for a while, but found that I could open a little smaller, pocket clip Spiderco, one-handed just as easilly. For a pretty good sized Buck, it is handy though. Mike Edited October 14, 2012 by katsass

I remember when I was a kid my Grandpa told me and my Cousin not to worry about packing around our big buck knives that all you need is a little Trapper or Stockman style knife, and you know the older I get the more I realized he was right but I do love my big knives. katsass Report post Posted October 15, 2012 The biggest thing to do with a knife, no matter what size, is to keep it SHARP. Mike
SpookStrickland Report post Posted October 15, 2012 The biggest thing to do with a knife, no matter what size, is to keep it SHARP. Mike Very true! My Grandpa taught me early on how to use a wet-stone and I still have that same wet-stone that I sharpen all my knives on. There are tone of new fangled knife sharpeners these days but I still prefer the good old fashioned wet-stone.
