Members 15mules Posted October 3, 2012 Members Report Posted October 3, 2012 I am hoping to get some thoughts and maybe an explanation or two on the best leather for lining brest collars and cinches and such. I have tried different things with decent results and I really like horse leather for this. I have seen some swear by horse leather for this, but to be honest, I have never really gotten a good explanation of why one type leather is better than the other. Hopefully some of you more experienced saddle and tach makers can help explain the reasoning better. Thanks for your input Quote
BevJones Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Frankly, I like oil tan, its easy to clean and holds up well. I don't know much about tanned horse hide. Quote
Members Jbarv Bulls Posted October 27, 2012 Members Report Posted October 27, 2012 I use latigo split down to 4-6 oz to line all my breast collars. I like how it looks, the heft it gives them, and seems to last pretty good. Bridles and such, I use either 4/6 oz oil tanned or horse hide oiled up real good, just depends on what I have laying around. Quote
