SLaCowboy Report post Posted October 9, 2012 Hey guys, New from South Louisiana. I have messed with leather a little as a hobby. Mainly making knife sheaths and a few other small projects. Came across this forum yesterday and I have already learned a great deal of knowledge in the few hours I spent reading past post. I would like to start some larger projects such as Taps, Chinks, and other tack. Figured I could enjoy making my own stuff and take pride in it as I use it. Anyways Ill be asking many questions in the future. I have a pretty good understanding on using most tools and have watched many videos. My lack of knowledge is the leather part. Mostly what size and parts of the hide to use for what projects. Also being economical when purchasing leather. Thanks for any advice in advance! bluesman1951 Report post Posted October 10, 2012 Hi ,From New Mexico may I offer as a place to purchase leather R.L Cox Hide and Fur 505-242-4980 Mike or Ellen are the owners and you would be dealing with them directly. The Cox company has been doing business for 80 years in the same place . I have known Mike and Ellen for 20 + years ,You will get a fair deal and good leather with every purchase . They are old school and do not have a web site or on line precence and when the phone is answered you will never hear music commericals or other junk ,never put on hold . All you are going to hear is "May I Help You " and you will be talking to the BOSS. If you like doing business that way ,this is the place for you . Welcome to the site .
