Members soaring eagle Posted October 14, 2012 Members Report Posted October 14, 2012 on my last project i used a piece of herman oak craft grade i have had for 2 years and decided to sun it with neat foot oil first....then i didn't treat part of it... the sunned neat foot took the dye better.... So my next project decided to sun and oil the whole thing,,except i put neat lac on it by mistake(old age, eyesight, meds????) anyways i heated it up with a hair dryer and neat foot oil and it outside in sun for next 24 hrs..I am building a holster for a second hand shop but still want my best to be there.... Is it going to tool and dye ok or have i got a plain jane project????? Quote
electrathon Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 Your order is way backwards. Tool, then dye, then oil, then neat lac. You would be best to start with a differant piece of leather. Aaron Quote

Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted October 14, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted October 14, 2012 You can try some deglazer and see if it'll pull the -lac off. Quote
Members ChuckBurrows Posted October 15, 2012 Members Report Posted October 15, 2012 Lacquer thinner will remove most/all of the Neatlac better than anything else I've ever used....... Quote

Members soaring eagle Posted October 17, 2012 Author Members Report Posted October 17, 2012 did all of the above and achieved a workable piece of leather,,only twice as hard as usual,,,got to cut pouch straps,,haven't decide 1 or 2,,gonna use a clean piece of leather that for damn sure!!! hasta luego Quote
