Cowboy Fast Draw Rigs

Anyone making any rigs that conform to the Cowboy Fast Draw Association regulations? I'd love to talk shop if you do.

I have made a few. I have been trying to get in touch with some of the competitors as I have found with SASS what the rule books say and what they want are two different things. There seem to be a couple styles from the Hollywood style to belts and drop holsters. From what I can ascertain the belts and drop holsters are more prevalent.

Yeah, I thought I had it figured out but now it seems each association has different regulations for their holsters and belts. Too many for me to keep up with until I'm at least back home and get get better organized. I'm looking now specifically at the CFDA regs as they have a club close to me that I want to start shooting and competing with. And being a holster maker I'd prefer to make my own rig. You have any pics? Do you have any tips on putting in the deflector in the skirt?

I have made one and it seemed to comply with all of the CFDA regs. I got the pattern from Makers Leather Supply (slickbald Custom)http://www.slickbaldcustoms.com/

it's a pretty good pattern pack for $15.00 with phot tutorial that does a very good job of showing instalation of the deflector. I will see if I can find pictures of the one I made. THe deflectoris just 20ga galv sandwiched between the front and backe of the double layer skirt. The CFDA rules give specific measurements for placement of the deflector and the pattern from makers supply shows it pretty well.

So, I went to my first Cowboy Fast Draw shoot today. I had a blast! Probably the most fun I've had shooting any gun. Well, anyway, because I haven't cut my own rig yet, I used someone else's. it was made by Tombstone Leather and it was a very nice rig. Well, I got to looking at it and noticed the skirt was attached to the belt in order to keep the holster from coming up with the gun on a draw. But for the life of me I couldn't figure out how it was attached. I saw absolutely no signs of Chicago screws or any other hardware. Anyone have any ideas how this was accomplished?

im not sure if i understand you correctly...the skirt was attached to the belt...i usually put a strip of leather on my skirts at the bottom edge of the beltline to stop it from comming up when drawn...could it be that the skirt was glued to the belt?

I haven't been doing this all that long but have seen strip of leather sewn to skirt to keep holster from rising when revolver or pistol is drawn,,only pix from Carilco(sp) leather,,don't know

what kind of extra bulk,,if any from just looking...

I guess it could've been. Or I just missed something. I just didn't see anything obvious. I'm thinking I'll use Chicago screws though.
