Hi Gang,

Had a customer over today picking up a project I did for him. His girlfriend uses a canvas bag, about the size of a gallon zip lock to carry her things. He asked me to make her a simple bag. So we discussed some options and came up with this. I would use 8/9 oz for the bag portion large enough to include a flap closure. Inside of this he wants an inlay of sting ray. Then we would add a gusset to allow for an accordion effect for more room. All this with a 1" adjustable strap. Now, I'm thinking about the gusset. Oh, everything is to be lined with 2/3 oz pigskin. For the gusset I thought two lined pieces of 2/3 oz veg tan sewn together. Then sew the gusset to form the purse. i would inlay the sting ray on the flap and then add, maybe a strap with some sort of closure. Am I thinking this through correctly and does anybody have some sage advice for me? No pockets, required, just a simple single compartment bag.

Thanks,

Jon

Do you mean inside as the inside of the flap or inside as in inside, within a defined border, on the front of the flap? Sorry if that is a confusing sentence.

I would mock up with some spare 1" strap to see if it's fitting to use that width. It may "feel" unbalanced with that width, it may not, but better to give it a quick check to test than to have it assembled and think that something looks "off" about it.
