I wanted to get a heavier duty machine used (seperate motor below) for use in making some personal boat sails but also do marine canvas, and heavy shade cloth to make some shade sails. So this throws me into a zig zag machine which even used end up being a bit expensive. Ive found some nice used straight stitch machines like consew 206 but that does not give me the zig zag? Wizcrafts Report post Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) Singer of Japan made a blue body zig-zag industrial sewing machine: the 29U. It allows you to set the position of the needle for straight stitching, or to zig-zag, using two levers (needle position : zig-zag width). It should be adequate for marine upholstery, seat covers and even some light weight drapery. Do not attempt to sew leather on one of these machines! Pfaff also made/makes industrial zig-zag machines.
