My cousin sent me some pics of a leather item he found at a yard sale or thrift store and he has no idea what it is. I'm completely stumped.

Anyone have any idea?

I believe it is a guidon holster. They are used for parades or extended carrying of flags and guidons.

There are quite a few different variations on it, but they all to pretty much the same job.

An example can be seen here.

Well, I stand corrected... I think I was thrown off about the scale with the first image. After that, I sort of locked in on one thought and prevented anything else from entering.

Apologies for that, Shtoink. He's a pretty big fellow so I could see where his hands might have messed up the scale in the first pic a bit. Yours was a better guess than any of the ideas I was coming up with, I gaurantee that!
