Clickers In Australia

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a good quality clicker in Australia? Nothing powered by electricity. Something manual that will cut through at least 5mm thick leather, good quality, under 2k, that will last me a long time. I already know about Lucris. Are there any others?

Thanks for your help.

No there isn't anything else in Australia, the only other manual clicker actually designed for leather is from Weaver in America you will need an ABN to deal with them. The only other option for manually clicking leather is to modify a shop press, if you want one already made Weaver also used to do one I don't have a current catalogue so are not sure if they still do. Texas Custom Dies also had one but it seems their website is down at the moment. If you don't have an ABN maybe see about contacting Birdsall Leather and see if they could help you deal with Weaver.

Just one thing what size pieces are you trying to click as the manual clickers aren't really designed for large stuff for that you will need an electrical model.

This may be way off..... but if I were you I would try to find an old printing press. The ones where you set the type, place the paper face down and tighten the hand screw. Like this.

I don't think you would find something like that in Australia, After doing some searching around it seems some people are using old book presses to click. Might be an option if you are doing small things there are a few on Ebay Australia at the moment do a search for cast iron book press and they should come up.

Exactly what I was thinking.... book press, printing press... the kind that uses human power. As long as the antiques aren't too expensive I think it would work great.

I was going to suggest a fly press. Look up second hand machinery dealers - there are still a couple in Sydney.

Try Hafco Machinery for a new one.

Thank you all for your assistance. It has been most helpful! :) I like the idea of print press or fly presses. :)

Cheers

I use a modified shop press. I have two 1/2" thick steel plates one mounted to the top so it lifts with the press. It works pretty good, not as good as a real clicker but it does the job. I put an air over hydraulic bottle jack in it to speed things up a bit but you can do the same with a manual jack. I have about 300 bucks invested in it so it wasn't a huge expense. I use the same press to do the initial forming of my holsters and that was the initial reason I bought it so it didn't take much to convert it for clicking. Surely you can get one of those in Australia.
