Members Coho Posted December 21, 2012 Members Report Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) Can anyone help me with my new(used) sewing machine settings/setup ? Machine is a Mach 1 (from Leighton's) - same as a Techsew GA5-1. Triple checked thread feed - thats good, triple checked bobbin, thats good, when I sew, after about 6-10 stitches, I get a birdsnest on the underside of the leather and then the thread breaks. I am not exactly sure how to adjust either of the thread tensioners up or down (I know to turn them, but tried both ways and still getting the same birdsnests). Help is appreciated as I am trying to sew a suede backing onto a rifle sling & need the machine ! lol Thanks in Advance - Coho Edited December 21, 2012 by Coho Quote
Members Anne Bonnys Locker Posted December 21, 2012 Members Report Posted December 21, 2012 The bottom tension should be set so that when you pull the thread through the needle plate it comes relatively easily. On the 45k/Ga5 style machines there are no tension disks as such so you actually wrap the thread around the tension not just under it. Also ensure that the take-up spring is under the spur not sitting on top. Whenever you remove the faceplate for cleaning you must check this detail. Quote
