Chavez Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Hi! Being an absolute zero in marketing, I can't decide what to print on my business cards under my name. How do you describe your business? "Custom Leatherwork" is probably the best I could come up with, but I don't think many clients will know what "custom leatherwork" actually means... "Hand made custom leatherwork"? A bit more info but still quite short =( And just doesn't sound right. Do you list your main areas of leatherwork? "Hand made gunleather and leather accessories"? Will put off most people who don't happen to be a gun nut from buying a wallet (I'm in the UK, not the US) =( "Custom leather accessories"? I would be very grateful for any suggestions! Really stuck here =( Thank you! Chavez
Beaverslayer Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Here's what my business card looks like. The possibilities are endless when it comes to business cards. I got mine from www.vistaprint.ca They have complete design functionality on their website, you can do whatever you want. I got 500 cards with printing on the front and back, along with a Fancy engraved stainless steel card holder for $46.00 shipping included. My sons tattoo shop got all theirs done there as well, over 4000 cards and 8 of the fancy card holders for under $100.00....quantity ordering saves a great deal. Cyberthrasher Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I'm a lot more simple about mine. It's more of a contact card. To me, if they're in a position to get the card, then they're likely in a position for "someone" to explain to them more about what you do. I have pictures on a different computer, but under my business name on one side it just says "kustom leather tooling and design". That slogan with Hellhound Kustoms is the ONLY thing on that side of the card. The other side has my signature HK logo, name, email address and a facebook address. Quite simple and to the point for me.
cmantz Report post Posted January 25, 2013 My suggestion...keep your business card CLEAN and SIMPLE. With today's full color printing capabilities and companies like Vista Print (UGH!!) you can get nice, full color, two sided cards inexpensively. REMEMBER..your business card is your FIRST contact with someone. DO NOT go handing out homemade, flimsy cards! BAD, BAD idea. Make sure it is a card that feels good in your hand. Cheap, thin cards I just want to pitch. I mean, if someone can't at least pay for nice cards, what does that say about their business? I like to keep the front pretty clean...logo and tagline, contact information (address, website, phone numbers)...use the backside to list what you do. If you can incorporate pictures of your work...especially for the background of a full color card, that would be ideal. To me, business cards are like any other form of promotional items...if you just buy them because they are cheap, people won't use them and they will throw them away. Invest in better promotional products that people will actually use and you will get a better RIO (return on investment). Just my opinion...
benlilly1 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Here's my business card... I just decided that it would draw more attention if it the business wasn't described and I had just the name, phone and website address. That way they would have to go to the website to see what kind of business it is.
dirtclod Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Benlilly i think i would of put what i do / make on the card or a picture of what i do / make. People are lazy and i wouldn't want to take a chance on them not looking and throwing the card away. I'm sure a lot of the cards i hand out get tossed when they get home or clean out their billfold. Cyberthrasher Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Mine are still at the printers, but here's the submitted images - front and back. I might adjust the logo positioning in the end, so I just ordered 100 for now to "test" them. Benlilly i think i would of put what i do / make on the card or a picture of what i do / make. Especially with a name like Buttskinz. Not trashing the name at all, but imagine the wife who finds that and wonders "WTH is my husband into!!!" Blake Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I personally think the word custom is so overused that it has little or no meaning to the consumer anymore. My card reads Saddles and Fine Handcrafted Leather Goods My .02 cents Blake
Cyberthrasher Report post Posted January 25, 2013 I try to specialize in stuff for the Kustom Kulture crowd, and I dabble in other parts of that scene as well so I wanted to leave myself open to start offering those services.

Well Dirtclod...I have 500 of these things to get rid of and I don't see using all of them up so maybe in the future I might change it up! For sure Cyberthrasher, you're probably right about that one...although I'm sure she'd go to the site to find out what he's looking at!
Cyberthrasher Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Not sure mine would. She'd probably just shake her head in disgust and repeat "I don't want to know" over and over and over.

benlilly1 Report post Posted January 25, 2013 Benlilly if you go places and set up to sell 500 will be gone before ya know it. Yes Dirtclod, that's something I haven't done yet. I don't think I'm ready for that yet. I like my nice little corner in my work area but, a show is very intimidating. I'm going down to Nashville next weekend. Should be a blast. I have a seat down there on a bike that's on the cover of the March issue of Easy Rider. EXCITED ABOUT THAT!
