Members NightshadeRoseLeatherWorks Posted January 29, 2013 Members Report Posted January 29, 2013 I have been assembleing my leather tools, arch punches, clicker die, mallet/hand punches of all types. I have been able to repair minor damage in the past myself, chips and cracks. But now I need some major repair and even some fabrications. Does anyone know any one capable of doing this. Preferabley some one in the Western Pennsylvaina Region? Quote
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted January 30, 2013 Members Report Posted January 30, 2013 What do you consider to be major repairs? Fabrication covers a lot of ground, so pics, or drawings would be helpful. Quote
Moderator Art Posted January 30, 2013 Moderator Report Posted January 30, 2013 You are telling us nothing. What is major repair to an arch punch? Repairs are going to exceed the cost of a new punch. As far as the dies go, Texas Custom and Weaver Leather can handle that. Check on an Amish or Mennonite smith in Eastern Ohio or the Lancaster area for tool fabrication. Art Quote
Members NightshadeRoseLeatherWorks Posted January 30, 2013 Author Members Report Posted January 30, 2013 When I say major repair I am refering to a large chunck of the cutting surface is now missing. In particular I have a punch set that cuts out letters of the alphabet. The one section of the E is missing and in transet from one location to another, I have managed to misplace the I the T the X the U. Sorry for no being detailed enough in my origional post, but I felt that generalities might have been the best way to go to start. Quote
Moderator Art Posted January 30, 2013 Moderator Report Posted January 30, 2013 In that case, I would say buy a new punch, and modify the broken one to cut belt ends or corners or whatever. I guess a handled clicker die could be made for the missing punches, but the new pieces might approach the cost of a new set. The problem with grinding a punch back a long ways is that it changes the size, because of the taper. Art Quote
Members BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted January 31, 2013 Members Report Posted January 31, 2013 Depending on who made the letter stamps---my local Tandy had some singles available from incomplete sets they got in. The companies generally don't sell single letters. I even have a couple of ophans in my tool rack that I couldn't see tossing in case someone might need them. Quote
