Members WoodBoneAndStone Posted February 21, 2013 Members Report Posted February 21, 2013 This is impressive. I'm not sure what it is but really cool shaping. I'm seeing a Kermit The Frog helmet. Please tell us what it is! Quote
Members WinterBear Posted February 21, 2013 Members Report Posted February 21, 2013 They are hoods for raptors, for falconry. The welts on the sides shape areas where the bird's eyes are, so the leather does not contact the bird's lids or lashes. The topknot at the top is used to remove the hood when the bird is ready to hunt, and to replace it when the bird needs to be transported or handled. The opening at the front goes around the raptor's beak, but still allows the bird to open its beak and pant if need be. These are some beautiful falconry hoods. Quote
Members WoodBoneAndStone Posted February 21, 2013 Members Report Posted February 21, 2013 That is so cool! No insult intended by the Kermit the Frog thing. I was impressed at first sight regardless of what it was! ...and pardon my ignorance! Quote
Members WinterBear Posted February 21, 2013 Members Report Posted February 21, 2013 No worries. My professor was a falconer, so I recognized what they were. Quote

Members benlilly1 Posted February 21, 2013 Members Report Posted February 21, 2013 Thank you, it is a hood(hat) for the golden eagle I had to google Tomaga. Interesting way of hunting. I never knew anyone ever hunted with eagles. The training must be intense. Quote
