Members BrianPF Posted March 4, 2013 Members Report Posted March 4, 2013 Hello all, I am new to the forum and leather work in general and I am trying to recreate a tool roll I have found online. The leather portion seems simple, but I figured I would tap into the wisdom here to see if I am leaving anything out. Pictures attached. It appears the edges are burnished (never done this), the logos are branded, and it is sewn into the waxed canvas lining. I am unsure if the border of the flap is burnt as well? I am looking at getting some 8oz leather from Tandy and some #10 Duck material to make it out of. Thanks!! Brian Quote
Members SteelheadFineGoods Posted March 5, 2013 Members Report Posted March 5, 2013 Hi Brian, I've seen this tool roll online too. I think you may be right to assume that the border around the edges are branded. I don't think I'd suggest an 8oz veg tan for the leather. I would suggest something lighter like a 3-4 oz veg tan for flexibility. You could probably use something a bit heavier for the straps though. The duck looks waxed, and something similar to the shelter cloth that Filson uses. Check out Martexin cotton duck. I use this stuff for tote bags and other things, but I use the heavier #8 (18oz) waxed duck. Good luck with your project. Share the results when you're done! Quote
Members ABuck Posted March 13, 2013 Members Report Posted March 13, 2013 Makr out of orlando made these for Deus motorcycles. Makr uses a cnc laser, so the edges arent burnished in the traditional sense they are burned by the laser. Quote
Members BrianPF Posted March 14, 2013 Author Members Report Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks SteelHead and ABuck! I hadn't thought of it being done with a CNC laser, good piece of info! Quote
