Vivaldi Report post Posted March 7, 2013 I recently used some 4 year old vinegaroon on veg tan leather and it did not produce the same rich black that it did 4 years ago. I am not sure if this is because of some difference in the leather or because the vinegaroon is too old. So does anyone know if old vinegaroon produces less black color than new vinegaroon? ChuckBurrows Report post Posted March 7, 2013 Not unusual with it being that old but don't throw it away - just add a bit of iron and vinegar to renew it...
lazybum Report post Posted April 2, 2013 I had a batch that hadn't been toucher for about 1 year. It didn't even turn the leather grey.
artycpt Report post Posted April 2, 2013 I have some old vinegaroon that I use from time to time. I find that as stated by Chuck, a little more vinigar and iron will bring it back. Also, heating it some helps rejuvinate the chemical reaction. Before I use it again I heat it up for a little bit then test it. So far (going on about two years now) I just keep adding to it and heating it and it has worked for me.
Fowlingpiece Report post Posted April 4, 2013 I have had a running batch for about 4 years. I just keep adding vinegar. I do not add more iron as I leave it in the jar and shake every now and then.
