zapblam Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Arborist / tree climbing rope protector. Climbing rope runs through it over a limb. Retails for $25 + $15 shipping + tax. Bought a nice 1/4" thick vegtan leather for $20, enough to make 2 or 3 plus a belt or 2. Is this really as simple as cutting a strip, soaking it, forming a tube, then forming the tube into a horeshoe. I was thinking form around a garden hose, or even fill with sand to form it. Then rivet or stitch it.
Tree Reaper Report post Posted March 14, 2013 It's that simple but who uses that over a friction saver? I made one years ago and used it once, maybe.
zapblam Report post Posted March 14, 2013 will use one for rec climbing, and use the work rings for on job climbs. Still learning the ropes and the leather will get me up there until I can afford the nicer stuff.
Tree Reaper Report post Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) SRT is easier to set but if you want to make this maybe make it for 5/8 rope so 1/2 inch has some wiggle room. You can use 5/8 rope around something round like a wheel rim to wet form the shape or a piece of plastic conduit that you can heat and bend to the shape you want and wet form over that. or just buy the rings and make your own Edited March 14, 2013 by Tree Reaper
