First Attempt - Quiver

Recommended Posts

hi all,

here is my first attempt at leatherworking, finished it about a week before xmas 2012:

i did quite a few things 'wrong'. i punched the holes before folding it together thinking it would line up while i was stitching it together. needless to say, stitching was quite the ordeal...the biggest mistake was not treating the leather with some kind of conditioner before applying a final finish and the leather started cracking about a week after the finish dried...

overall, i am happy with it as a first project. it was a great learning experience.

Looks great to me. What finish were you using? Some finishes are too hard to use on leather that flexes and it will crack.

Thanks Bigfoot, I am happy with it as a first attempt. The finish is Eco-Flo Satin Shene at the advice of the guy at my local Tandy store.

Nice work. You can line up in advance by using registration marks and then counting and making stitches that parallel. What would you have done to precondition before working the leather if you had it to do over again? I have had cracking with tooling/veg leather as well.
