mask in need of a recover

i have recently been given, before the great crash of 08 a italian leather mask which has some rain damage and appears to have a very thin outer varnish layer.

It is a repair job, what should i use to fix it? Carnuba cream?

hi pip, when you say rain damage, do you mean it has lost its shape or the color has faded or run?

it has a kinda crispy white/clear surface where the rain has contacted with it, like fine crystalised salt and faded colour.

i wonder if it got salt water on it, the only thing i can think of is just a wipe with a damp sponge and then retouch the color. If the seal has broken down to give the crystal effect, i am not sure what to do.
