Cobra 4

I will call Steve in a few hours but I thought I woulld put the question out for some answers. The answers may help someone now or later.

My new (really new) Cobra 4 has thread problems. A fraying problem. I am sure it is not me . 277 nylon bonding. Looked at the pictures a couple of times and threaded the machine a couple of times. The tension problem seems to be when the thread emerges from the lower tension position and,of course, everything goes down hill from there.

I have lesseed the tension and I have tightened the tension at this position and a few times more in between. I cannot see any burrs or anything else that would cause this.

Any body experience this or have an idea?

Shot in the dark here. My Singer was breaking top thread and fraying it badly, it was slightly out of time and the hook was splitting the top thread. I think I also moved the hook closer and went up a needle size as well as adjusting the timing. Sews awesome now.

'Fraid I don't know what the "hook" is relating to the Cobra. I believe I have the biggest needle installed. Came that way with a sample of four pieces of leather sewn together. I would suppose with the 277 thread..But I will check the timing.

Hook on the bobbin shuttle (I think thats what it's called) the hook catches the loop formed by the top thread and pulls it around the bobbin thread forming the stitch. If you can, take the cover off the bobbin area and watch as the stitches are formed making sure the hook catches the loop formed by the top thread, I'm not familiar with the 441 and clones.....yet....

J Hayes, you were very close with all my bad information. I had installed a new needle backwards. Point down but backwards.. That simple. Duh. Learnin'.
