raysouth Posted April 20, 2013 Report Posted April 20, 2013 Howdy All, Having bit of difficulty with hands lately and want to do some lap skiving on a few items. Have been looking around and found a couple of items on eBay and wondering if anyone has any information about these items. Listed by: bantamsaddletack Item no. 271190154840 Price for both the skiver and splitter: $ 234.99 with free shipping. No idea how to get the information onto the site. Please forgive. Would appreciate any advice or assistance along these lines. God Bless. Ray Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted April 20, 2013 Moderator Report Posted April 20, 2013 Ray, I think that little Hertiage splitter is pretty dandy for lap skiving. I usually have one or two around and I like them for laps. Push forward on the handle as you pull the strap through. Smooth and as simple as doing it on an old Osborne #84.They are kind of awkward for level splitting though. There isn't any locking mechanism to hold the level so you need to hold the handle forward against the stop screw with one hand while you pull with the other. If you are doing a long strap you have to stop and reset your hands every so often. The crown splitter is OK, but I don't know how often many people use them. Members ReneeCanady Posted April 21, 2013 Members Report Posted April 21, 2013 I have no idea what lap skiving means, but I can tell you that my skiver and I do not get along very well lol. It seems to be getting better the more I use it. I often wondered if a splitter would work for what I do or not. Quote www.facebook.com/alteredleather
