Members Rumguts Posted May 28, 2013 Members Report Posted May 28, 2013 Thanks to a random google search this costed me 8 hours of carving. My wife had me hang this on the wall. Any tips on doing scales would be appreciated as majority were done with a modelling tool after cutting them in. I wanted to do a chinese style dragon next and was wondering if a different way to do the scales Quote

Members rscow Posted May 29, 2013 Members Report Posted May 29, 2013 Very nice job. Last time (first time) I did a koi, I cut them in with my swivel knife then a backgrounder. And randomly undercut some of them and lifted them. Quote
Members Jimbob Posted May 29, 2013 Members Report Posted May 29, 2013 Try airbrushing the top part of the scales, fading to the end...also use a stipple tool and stipple the roots of the scales a bit....about half way out....lifting as mentioned is a good way to get it more 3D look like.....like the Koi a lot, good work!!
