Heat Gun For Use With Aussie / Mpb?

I have read that some people use Aussie or MPB conditioner before it leaves to the customer as the last step. Some say they use a heat gun. Some do not.

If I'm using resolene and then Aussie or MPB, should I be using a heat gun or applying without the use of a heat gun?

This is for dog collars, human belts, dog leashes.

I don't know about Aussie, but for MPB, the directions on the jar tell you what to do

Just put small glob of it in your palm and rub it into the leather with your fingers - a little goes a LONG way.

The heat from your hand melts it, followed by the heat from rubbing it into the leather with your fingers.

We use Aussie,or Skidmores on just about everything before it leaves our shop..No heat gun..

Curious.....I finish with Resolene, then use Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax. Have not heard of either one of the above. can you tell me what they are and what their purpose is?

They're wax conditioners. MPB is a mixture of Mink Oil, Beeswax, and Pine Pitch. It's great stuff. conditions the leather and adds a protective wax finish on it. I use it on everything before I wrap it up and send it out, and also instruct my customers to do the same a couple times a year as needed. If you're applying over Resolene, you'll want to let it sit for several hours (over night) to allow the oils to penetrate the finish, and then buff off according to the instructions in the morning.

Using hair dryer on low setting speeds up sinking of conditioner into the leather, even if it was applied after Resolene. If you have a temperature controlled dehydrator or heated box (as for holster hardening), this will work too.
