Rawhide Mallet Care Question

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of rawhide mallets that are at least 25 years old. I picked up my tools again after a long (oh, 10 years or so) break.

I have been noticing some small "particles" of rawhide landing on my work while tooling.

What is the proper care for old(er) rawhide- or is this just normal??

Thanks!

DJ

With mine I just cut off the end with a hack saw, just the minimum to have a fresh face

and to keep it square I use a car hose clip as a guide for the hacksaw

I use my 12" disc sander, it makes quick work of that job.
