Members gtrscarz Posted June 27, 2013 Members Report Posted June 27, 2013 I'm new to leather and have done some basic projects. I've been looking to add to my skills and get more involved with stitching. I saw a youtube video of a guy doing guitar straps using a sewing machine for the liner. Question...is there a machine that is recommended or is it recommended to hand stitch? Quote
electrathon Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Learn to sew by hand. When you have made a lot of money buy a sewing machine. One that will sew leather is not cheap and the shortcuts just cost more money. Quote
Members silverwingit Posted June 27, 2013 Members Report Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) I couldn't agree with electrathon more. There will always be projects and parts thereof that will demand to be sewn by hand. From where I sit, being able to hand-stitch well is what makes a Leatherworker. If you can't hand stitch almost as well as well as Nigel Armitage, you will remain a hobbyist in my and many other folks' eyes. Edited June 27, 2013 by silverwingit Quote
