Members GhostWind Posted July 13, 2013 Members Report Posted July 13, 2013 I am going to build myself a Paniolo style saddle. What I need are some ideas for where / who I can get a good custom saddle tree from. Any thoughts on this whole process, not just the tree, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much for you time and energy on this project. Sonny Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted July 16, 2013 Contributing Member Report Posted July 16, 2013 Hello GhostWind, and welcome to the forum! I'm not a saddle maker, just interested in doing it some day. I don't know much about tree makers but I know of one that has a good repuation and maybe can help you out. Rod Nikkel: http://www.rodnikkel.com/content/index.php. Don't know if they have any experience making your kind of tree though. Bob Quote There are always possibilities.... Members oldtimer Posted July 16, 2013 Members Report Posted July 16, 2013 There is an article on Paniolo saddles in the latest copy of The saddlers and leathercrafters journal, written by Pete Gorrell Quote "The gun fight at the O.K. corral was actually started by two saddlemakers sitting around a bottle of whiskey talking about saddle fitting"...
Members GhostWind Posted July 17, 2013 Author Members Report Posted July 17, 2013 Thanks for the welcome. I've already been in touch with Rod Nikkel, Bob. He's not taking new customers at this time due to his back log of work and "old timer", Pete's article in the saddlers and leather workers journal is what got me going on this again. Gretchen aka mauifarrier, has some great info and has been super helpful. I'll keep in touch on my progress. Thanks much for commenting. Quote
