Glendon Report post Posted July 29, 2013 Angelus does make sprit based dyes which would be a replacement for Eco-Crud, but the acrylic paint is something else completely. It's used for painting designs on leather, not covering a whole project like you would with dye. Your project would basicly be coated in acrylic plastic at that point. Think of it this way. Dyes color the leather. Arylics cover the leather with color.
raysouth Report post Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) Hello Sawyer, Glendon gave you a good description of what the products will do. Very easy to understand. I use a lot of Angelus products, as well as others, and find them to be very good. The acrylic paints, when allowed to dry overnight, have held fast when covered with a finishing product such as balm, conditioners of other types, etc. I suppose they could be lifted if there was a lot of hard rubbing on them, as with just about any surface application not incorporated into the leather itself. Tried several paints and found that Cova paints are my least favorite. Some of the artist acrylics have held up well but still seem to favor Angelus and Tarrago. I use a couple of Tarrago colors, white and olive, as I am not one that enjoys mixing colors to obtain what I need. Hope this is of some use and gets you under way. God Bless. treybecca Report post Posted August 10, 2013 I actually use Angelus Paint on all my armor commissions...the color is just more dense then dye. I use dye as a base "just in case" and then go over it in thin coats. The paint actually dries much faster then other paint I have found and I have yet to see it scratch or peel like the icky Cova did. Once it is dry, I go over it with antique and then seal with Leather Sheen.

I have a few patterns from Lora Irish collection and have done most of them with pyrography on wood and leather. Great fun. Always looking for new dragons and find a pattern now and then. God Bless.
