Members Lacosta Posted August 7, 2013 Members Report Posted August 7, 2013 Hi Everyone, I am looking for a suede or leather trim that has tiny scallops on one edge with a tiny stud in each scallop. The other end would be wide enough to sew. I see this trim on tons of purses and cannot find where to aquire it. Last resort is to make it - where to purchase a GOOD scallop leather sissors? Anyone run across this or is using it? Thanks a Ton Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted August 8, 2013 Contributing Member Report Posted August 8, 2013 Hello Lacosta, I haven't seen a premade trim like this. Have you tried searching Etsy for someone selling this in one of their shops? There are a lot of people there that sell raw material for making other crafts, and maybe someone there has something that will work for you. I've tried a few of the scalloped scissors made for paper crafts and so far I haven't found any that work really well for cutting paper consistently, let alone leather. If I were going to make a scalloped trim I would cut the suede to the size I needed then I would use a half round punch to punch out the individual scallops. Bob Quote
Members ChuckBurrows Posted August 8, 2013 Members Report Posted August 8, 2013 I make my own by using strips of the appropriate sized leather (I make it a bit wider than needed and after scalloping I trim to the correct width) and for the scallops there are no scissors available that I know of so I use a round punch of the appropriate diameter and grind off half of one side to make it a half round. This is a pic of one of my pairs of botas on which I used fairly large scallops, but I have made them as small as 1/4" with a 1/8" spot in the center Quote
Members ChuckBurrows Posted August 8, 2013 Members Report Posted August 8, 2013 or you can get a pinking punch like these http://brucejohnsonleather.com/content/index.php/leather_tools_for_sale/leather-punches-concho-slot-strap-end-and-hole-punches/ On softer leathers it also helps to tape the back side with blue tape -it helps keep the leather from loosing it's shape Quote
Members Lacosta Posted August 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted August 12, 2013 Thanks Chuck & Bob for your input. Some tool maker should design a punch in different sizes with several in a row as well as a single. Probably sell a ton. Thanks again Quote
Members Lacosta Posted August 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted August 12, 2013 Ask and you shall recieve - Bruce Johnson leather has 1/2 round punches! Thanks Bruce Quote
Members gracefulmeg Posted February 9, 2017 Members Report Posted February 9, 2017 I remember finding this feed a while back and I've finally figured out how to get lots of different scallops. I made a video about this here hoping it will help someone who finds this later. Quote
