California Restrictions

Recommended Posts

I am left to think where do I buy my supplies. I am in California and I have been doing a lot of online shopping and all companies will not ship their products to California. I am referring to the Fiebings Oil Dye, Wyo Sheen and all kinds of other products that are essential to leather crafting. How do you guys do it? I came to think of ordering these products to a relatives address in Arizona and she then bring them to me, but then I thought this could be illegal. So is their a legitimate way of doing this or do we have to compromise. If so please recommend products that replace the originals which I am not happy with. For example I heard the adhesive that is California compliant is no good. What is your input on this topic I know there has to be other hide pounders in California. Thank you!

GOD BLESS!

You can do what I did after almost 40 years there, and bail out of Kalifornia.

I didn't write the laws but some distributors will ship and some products can be shipped if you have a business license and not as a retail customer. Not a real issue to have it shipped to AZ or NV either that I can see. With all the stuff coming across porous borders, a case of glue or finish is small potatoes. Next spring there are leather shows in Wickenburg and Prescott AZ, people that sell this sort of thing will be there.

Some of the stuff that some retailers won't ship to California is not really restricted in California. It's just that California sues out of state retailers that do ship restricted items in to California and it's difficult for an out of state retailer to find out whats legal so many of them wont bother with it.. It seems that California has chased out enough companies that now there turning to suing out of state companies for extra revenue.

Using a freight forwarder can be risky because it the package becomes damaged in transit and something starts leaking you’ll get caught. I have nothing but contempt for Tandy glue, & dye but if you must live in California than it would be safer to get used to using California legal products.
