tashabear Report post Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) I'm the next best thing to done with this project, which is a baronial coronet from someone in the SCA. I love how it's turned out, but the Super Shene looks awful on it, and when I buff it, the Liquid Leaf I used for the gold cross and edging rubs off. I want to seal the entire thing to make it as water-resistant as possible, while still remaining fairly flexible. A spray finish is not out of the question, as long as it has the above characteristics. Here's a picture for reference: There are 6 points, each will be tipped with a pearl, and then it will be sewn together. Timd Report post Posted September 17, 2008 Tashabear, I just got Fiebing's leather sheen spray, and it seals acrylics really well. I don't know about weatherproofing, but it puts a real nice finish things.
CitizenKate Report post Posted September 18, 2008 Consider a wax finish. It seals acrylics, dyes, and antiques very well, and produces a nice satin finish that is highly water resistant. Depending on what you get, you can spray it on or wipe it on. Some products I've used with very nice results are: - Bee Natural Leather Finish (sprayed on) - Trewax Clean & Wax Liquid Carnauba Wax (that's right, a floor care product; sprayed on) - Kiwi Neutral Shoe polish (wiped or brushed on) - Trewax also has a paste wax that also makes a great leather finish - it gives more of a glossy finish than the liquid. I would use something that is sprayed on since it's got gold leaf. Kate
