Members xlr8tn Posted October 6, 2013 Members Report Posted October 6, 2013 What size thread should I be using for 8 stitches per inch? Also, when my thread size goes smaller, is there an awl that I should be using other than the Osborne one I have? Is there anything smaller than this? http://www.amazon.com/Tandy-Leather-Osborne-Stitching-31218-01/dp/B0036L6H7K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1381071839&sr=8-2&keywords=osborne+stitching+awl Quote

Members Narvi Posted October 6, 2013 Members Report Posted October 6, 2013 18/3 linen thread works nicely for 8 stitches per inch. I get the 3-ply thread from Royalwood. A standard sadler's awl is fine, just poke only the tip of the blade through and the holes will stay small. I usually pre-poke the holes by stabbing downward with a thick piece of scrap leather below the work. Quote
Members Jax Posted October 6, 2013 Members Report Posted October 6, 2013 I normally use 18/4 or equivalent for 8 spi Quote
