roofacekilla Report post Posted March 5, 2014 first off... just want to say that its great this site exists.. and people are willing to help each other learn and grow! i hope in the future i can contribute. ive been lurking, reading, and learning. now to the meat of my post... ive recently purchased a consew 227R to switch from hand stitching to machine. when i got it home and ran it.. it was stitching ok.. a bit loose on the bobbin thread do to missing screws for the bobbin tension spring, but i got the bobbin tension tightened up with pinline tape (yankee ingenuity) and then she stitched great for a while.. until the needle broke! i replaced the needle and the timing seemed out.. but i realized it was a shorter needle (the machine came with a bunch of needles) so i replaced it with one of the longer (125 20 135x16) and it looked to be in time. once replaced the needle again(long groove to the left) i only got a few stitches before it seized up. after inspecting for a while it seems like the hook picks up the top thread fine.. carries it over the bobbin with no problem, but when it reaches the bobbin case opener its unable to pass by the opener and the triangular tab on the bobbin case. it seems to wrap the top thread around the bobbin thread and tightly cinches (i think). i have pics put not certain how to post at the moment via iphone any help much appreciated tx, andrew Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
aldenorange Report post Posted November 13, 2014 Roof! i've been having the exact same problem with my 227(no Reverse). Did you find a fix for it? I was thinking of putting some tape or something over the latch so the thread doesnt get hooked on it. I already had the hook replaced, so i really am running out of ideas. It's super frusterating, it's a great machine, but when it does get hooked, it really messes up the bottom of my work. I'll try and put up some pics when i get home. Northmount Report post Posted November 13, 2014 Make sure the tab for the bobbin case is in the notch in the feed plate, then if necessary, adjust the latch opening distance to pass your thread size. Had a similar problem once when I had taken the feed plate off to do some cleaning. Missed getting it into place. Twangs when the thread gets caught, shreds the thread. Northmount Report post Posted November 20, 2014 Looks like your thread is getting caught on the edge of your bobbin basket. On mine, the hook drags it across real smoothly. You need to see why it is getting caught there. Some rough edge, or too much clearance, or ... Hope you get it sorted out. Else PM wizcrafts or gottaknow. They are the experts. Tramps Leatherworking Report post Posted November 20, 2014 it appears the outer end of your bobbin hold down clip might be sitting too low causing a gap that is catching your thread.. I have a Consew 227R-2 that I just looked at and the outer end of the bobbin hold down clip is sitting just above the edge of the bobbin case... If you look closely at northmounts pic in post #3, you can compare it to yours... Mine looks just like his, the hold down clip is sitting just above the edge of the bobbin holder. The tread should NOT be able to catch on that corner like in your pic... Does that make sense? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Northmount Report post Posted November 23, 2014 I am having similar trouble My needle gets unthreaded as well When the top thread gets too tight because it is caught on something as hook carries it around the bobbin case, then the thread gets damaged or breaks. Start by checking that the tab on the bobbin case is in the correct location under the feed dog plate. Also take a look at this post and this one Then slowly turn the machine by hand and observe the thread as it is picked up and brought over/around the bobbin. See where it is catching.
