Members eatbeef88 Posted March 29, 2014 Members Report Posted March 29, 2014 Was wondering how much space around the edge of a belt is needed to buckstitch? I'm getting ready to make a 1 3/4" floral tooled belt and would like to buckstitch the edges. The width of the tooled area will be 1 1/4" leaving 1/4" around the edge. Will that be enough to buckstitch? If so I am leaning towards using a 5/32" angled chisel and 3/32" white plastic lace from tandy. Just wondering if that size of chisel will be good and will that size of lace work with that chisel size? Thanks a lot for your advice. Quote
Tree Reaper Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 I don't buck stitch but it looks like 3/16 to 1/4 inch from the edge in this video when you consider the lace is 1/8. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/Buckstitch-Lacing.aspx Quote
Members silverwingit Posted March 30, 2014 Members Report Posted March 30, 2014 With 1/8" lace, you would have a small fraction of an inch between the carving and on the other side, the belt edge. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that narrow of a margin on the carving side or that narrow of a boundary on the belt edge side. But that's me. Michelle Quote
